Everyone knows what a honeymoon is but say the word ‘babymoon’ and some people may not be entirely familiar with what you’re talking about. That’s because the concept is relatively new. Some say Wills and Kate, undeniable arbiters of style and trends that they are, really shone a spotlight on the idea back in 2013 when they jetted off to the Caribbean island of Mustique for a romantic getaway before Prince George made his royal debut.
Regardless, a babymoon is a pre-baby vacation taken by the parents-to-be, to enjoy a little romance, rest and relaxation before baby arrives and you forget what it means to sleep. When my husband Johnny Jet and I learned that we were expecting our first child, we were over the moon and welcomed the chance to take a babymoon to celebrate!
But where to go? Here are five beautiful babymoon destinations to consider:
Four Seasons Resort Oahu at Ko Olina
You know you can rely on the Four Seasons for an unforgettably luxurious experience. And when my husband and I checked into the Four Seasons Resort Oahu at Ko Olina, on the west side of the island of Oahu, we were not disappointed. The newly renovated property has a deliciously tranquil vibe from the moment you enter the sprawling lobby … and tranquility is everything in these months before baby comes and turns your world upside down! There are 371 rooms on property and the lagoon views, which you can enjoy from so many different vantage points around the hotel, are spectacular.
Four Seasons Lanai
If luxuriating at one Four Seasons hotel in Hawaii isn’t enough, consider island hopping and checking into the (also newly renovated) Four Seasons Lanai. The experience here will be just as luxurious as on the island of Oahu but in a completely different way due to its more rustic natural surroundings. But if you’re looking for a sexy, secluded escape, this is it! Romantic and laidback, there’s not much you’ll want to do here but lounge by the pool, swim in the ocean, visit the spa and indulge in the incredible food on property. The perfect recipe for a relaxing babymoon.
Post Ranch Inn
Perched at the edge of the world, Post Ranch Inn is the ultimate babymoon destination. Since there’s a no-kids policy, it’s the perfect adults-only retreat and you’ll be lulled into a state of total relaxation in no time, courtesy of Mother Nature, an abundance of fresh air and of course, the luxe accommodations. Rooms have big soaking tubs (and some with outdoor hot tubs on the balcony), fireplaces and a complimentary mini-bar. It all adds up to a recipe for romance and quality time together with your partner. Situated at 1,200 feet above the Pacific Ocean on the cliffs of Big Sur, overlooking the Pacific Ocean, this gorgeous getaway is a favorite with many celebrities and will be yours, too!
St. Regis Bali
If you really want to pull out all the stops, consider someplace like the St. Regis Bali for the ultimate, far-flung pre-baby vacation. The St. Regis Bali is as exotic as its name sounds and though getting there may take some time and effort, just imagine that moment when you sink your toes into the soft sand of a beach on the other side of the world. If you can, book a pool villa with access to the salt water lagoon, where you can enjoy a late night swim under the stars. And the breakfast buffet is an incredible selection of treats, especially all the fresh local fruits. Since one of you is eating for two, eat up!
Powerscourt Hotel Resort & Spa
There’s no shortage of romantic escapes all over Europe but hidden gems like the Powerscourt Hotel Resort & Spa in Ireland’s County Wicklow, just 30 minutes from Dublin, is one you may not have considered. With 194 spacious and luxurious rooms, marble bathrooms, a wonderful spa and ample high-end dining options, this luxury property has everything the couple wanting to be pampered is looking for. But the real star of the show here is the incredible natural beauty that surrounds the hotel. The Great Sugar Loaf Mountain looms majestically in the near distance and the perfectly manicured grounds and gardens are ideal for romantic strolls, talking about all the exciting changes that await when baby arrives.
